Best Wedding and Destination PhotographerBreckenridge, Colorado
I have the privilege of being sought-out as a natural light Wedding Photographer in mountain destinations in Colorado. I started shooting weddings over 10 years ago.
I approach each wedding from my photojournalism background and education with the idea that I will document my wonderful couple’s unique story and wedding in a highly personalized way. I still embrace traditional portraiture.
During portraits, I will give simple and natural direction instead of heavy-handed posing so that I can focus on how you naturally are with each other.
Destination weddings in the mountains of Colorado are a popular choice for your special day as they highlight the beauty and grandeur of nature. Your ceremony can have a majestic backdrop with a mountain range, towering trees, and big open sky.
I am a complete wedding professional! I will blend in with your guests and capture your love, the people, and all the beautiful details that make each wedding day unique.
I live in Breckenridge, Colorado and am very familiar with all the nearby wedding venues and have become an advisor of sorts as to the nuances of the set-up, lighting, flow, and best views for the entire day. I also have recommendations for my favorite wedding planners, hair and makeup artists, restaurants, and local coffee shops that make your entire wedding experience most comfortable, enjoyable, and memorable.
Do you have a wedding planned in Breckenridge, Keystone, Vail, Beaver Creek, or other mountain town in Colorado and are looking for a photographer? Please fill out the contact form below to inquire of my availability as you plan your wedding date.
Making Your Mountain Wedding Memorable
If you are traveling to Summit County, Colorado or the surrounding mountain areas for your wedding, there is much to plan for. Every meal and outing can become an event with guests arriving from out of town. You may even have your bachelor/bachelorette parties here as well since your favorite people will be together. If you’d like me to be a part of the whole wedding experience, I’m happy to discuss what that could look like.
I can document your wedding welcome party, rehearsal dinner, and the entire wedding day. Custom packages for the entire wedding weekend are available. I work with luxury wedding planners that curate your entire wedding weekend from start to finish and am happy to help you with the planning process as well as make sure that every detail of your destination wedding is captured.
Most couples hire me for their entire wedding day. This includes getting ready, details, the wedding ceremony, wedding party and family photos, newly wed portraits, and the reception afterwards. I can direct when needed, making sure to gather and coordinate the individuals for the photos you desire. Otherwise, I like to be as unobtrusive, and in the backdrop undetected, trying to capture as many natural, genuine moments as possible.
Some insider tips I try to share with all my clients before their mountain destination wedding:
Wear comfortable shoes – It’s charming to walk all around town and even squeeze in some simple hikes. Most of my brides wear snow boots under their wedding dress in the winter. Summer brides wear block heels or bring back up boots.
Drink plenty of water – We live at almost 10,000 ft above sea level, and you don’t want to deal with altitude sickness, headaches, dizziness, or nausea during this special time. It is also a very dry climate, so bring extra lotion and chapstick.
Wear Layers – The weather can change by the hour in the mountains. You’ll be most comfortable if you can add or shed layers throughout the day.
Start a Google Photos Album for the Wedding – You can easily share candids with others and have them upload their favorite photos into the album as well. Your personalized online gallery also allows you to download to Google Photos or Dropbox making it even easier to share images.
Amazing Grace – If you are in Breckenridge, be sure to stop by the favorite local, organic coffee and breakfast spot, Amazing Grace for their homemade scones, muffins, and biscuits. These are calories you will not regret. 😉
The Booking Process
After you’ve reached out to me and decided to hire me as your photographer, we’ll start by signing the contract and making your first payment. To book your wedding, I’ll send you a proposal online that is complete with a contract and payment schedule. To make this investment easiest on my clients, I offer payment plans in thirds:
- $500 retainer to secure your date
- 1st payment- Midway to event date (⅓ of total service cost)
- 2nd payment- 90 days before event (⅓ of total service cost)
- 3rd and final payment- 30 days before event
A lot of my clients come from all over to have a destination wedding or portraits done while on vacation. To make things super simple, all payments and contract signing is done online.
Once you’ve digitally signed on the dotted line, you’ll receive my preferred vendor list with my favorite planners, hair and make up artists, florists, bakers, officiants, caterers, and reception entertainment. I can’t recommend working with a planner enough. If you’re not working with a planner to coordinate a timeline for the event, I’ll send you the timeline template I created that will help you in planning out your day seamlessly. I include things like when the sunset time will be so that we can set aside time during golden hour to take some newlywed portraits. Of course you don’t have to be pulled out of your reception to take more pictures, but I always advise my couple’s to schedule this time just in case you’d like to take advantage of the best lighting in the mountains.
Four weeks prior to your wedding, I’ll send you a questionnaire to make sure things go smoothly and help me make it a great experience. I want to get all the necessary contact information for your maid of honor and best man, and a shot list of the important people you want photographed. It will also be the time where we can creatively brainstorm your vision for your wedding photography. You can check out my own inspiration on Pinterest or share with me your own wedding inspiration boards. Together, we will create a unique vision for your wedding day or shoot. Every detail is important!
I know you’ll be super excited to see your images! I send out a sneak peek within a week of some of my favorite images throughout your day. The full gallery of your wedding is delivered in 4-6 weeks via your personalized online gallery.
How I Prepare To Photograph Mountain Weddings
Photography is all about lighting. I am a nut about checking the weather and use tools like Google Earth Pro to see exactly when the light will tuck behind the mountain peaks. I even have an app on my phone to tell me the sunset time a year in advance. Two hours before sunset is typically when I like to be shooting portraits because it is usually the best light in the mountains.
Shooting in the mountains is a specialized craft. I know that if it’s extremely cold, I have to take special precautions to keep my extra batteries warm to make sure my camera doesn’t lose power due to the cold. I also have quick access to areas to make sure their accessible. That’s why I really caution you not to book a photographer in Denver or Colorado Springs that doesn’t have the same insight in shooting in the mountains. Trust me, hiring a local is best!
Engagement Photos In the Colorado Mountains
Engagement photos are some of my most favorite photo shoots! You have time to be fun and creative, basking in the glow of the excitement for your upcoming wedding. You get to decide how casual or formal you’d like the experience to be. I like to help make engagement photo sessions a memorable experience in every way.
Breckenridge, Colorado is my home, and so I have explored most every trail and scenic spot in the surrounding area over the years, searching for gorgeous background views. I look for areas that are easy to access, but somewhat hidden in order to avoid much foot traffic. I seek out a variety of texture and color for the backdrop, which helps create striking photos. I pay attention to lighting at different times of day to know exactly when and where to set up shoots for engagement photos.
Some of my favorite spots around Summit Country for engagement photos include:
- Sapphire Point, Breckenridge
- Blue Lakes, Blue River
- Windy Point
- Boreas Pass Road
- Lake Dillon
- Loveland Pass
These locations offer the most beautiful sunrise or sunset views and are easy to access.
After you schedule your engagement photo session with me, we meet for a quick call so I can learn more about your desires. I ask about your preferences for attire, activity, and hiking length. Do you have any pets you’d like to join you? Do you have a favorite item you’d like to include like a certain wine, blanket, prop etc
I like to hear about how you met and what drew you to each other. I try to learn as much as I can about your personality as a couple to make sure to capture it through photos during our time together.
The Magic Moment of a Wedding Proposal
Planning on proposing to the love of your life while you are both in the mountains? Outdoor proposals in an epic mountain location is what I love doing and helping you execute! I’ll help you in the planning process, choosing the right location for you and your future financé. Then we decide whether I’ll be completely hidden so that she has no idea what’s coming, or hiding in plain sight like a tourist. Maybe she’ll think it’s a family session so she’ll be a little more prepared and ready for pictures and your families will also be there to celebrate. I’ve done this so many ways and I’m happy to help you plan the proposal any way you’ve been thinking about for some time.
You’ll get a sneak peek of your proposal images usually that same day, so that you can share the happy news with family and friends almost immediately.
Since I’m already there to document the proposal, we’ll do a mini engagement session afterwards to capture some fun candid portraits of your time here in the mountains. Most of my couples use the pictures on their save the dates and throughout their wedding planning process. What a fun way to document this once in a lifetime moment!
Colorado Elopement Photographer
If you’re planning a small, intimate Colorado weddings or elopement, I have custom photography packages just for this type of event. Elopements are super popular for small mountain destination weddings. They usually include a final guest count of 50 or less guests or it can be just the two of you. These Elopement Collections are by coverage and not time, so you can pick a collection that fits your day of coverage desires.
Photo Gallery of Your Wedding Day
Each of my wedding and portrait packages come with a personalized online gallery. Portrait galleries are delivered 2-3 weeks after the session and weddings within 4-6 weeks (this can vary during peak season) with a custom URL to your online gallery.
You can download photos easily within your gallery in multiple sizes. I include high resolution downloads of all your edited images from your session or wedding. Want to be able to easily share to instagram and facebook? Download your images in Web Ready format and they’ll be perfectly sized for your mobile device so they won’t take up as much room and will be ready to share on social media.
One of my favorite features of your online photo gallery is the Favorites list. All you have to do is select the [heart] button when browsing through your collection. I would suggest to go through like you would on social media and hit the heart button for the photos you love. Go with your gut! That makes it so much easier to select the ones you want to print.
Share the best photos, or the complete gallery on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. It’s all integrated into your personalized online gallery so that you won’t have to fuss with any extra steps.
Buy online seamlessly and securely, all directly within the gallery. I keep my prints as affordable as possible and they’re all professionally printed in from my photo lab. I promise, these are not the same quality as Walmart or Walgreens. They’re as high end as it gets from my professional photo lab. These prints will become your family heirlooms and you’ll want to hang them proudly on your walls for years to come!
